Signatures

Ok, just a few things about siggys

1) To make sure your siggy works, you need to go into your profile, preferences, and see if you have it set to 'Always allow signatures' If it is set to no, you need to set it to yes.

2) Can I ask that if you are making your own, can it be sized no bigger than 420 x 260, as this is fairly big, any bigger will just make threads super long!

3) If the forum picks up and we get lots of posters who have siggys, I may ask everyone to reduce the size of their siggy. If we have lots of posters, threads are just going to over take the threads, so to make reading easier, we may just take them down in size a little

Ooh, actually Lynne, you could possibly help me out. I noticed on your forum you and your members use a lot of graphics, do they ever slow your forum down?
I asked on the support forum once why my old forum was so slow and they told me it was because of too many graphics, but I have been looking for affilaites tonight and noticed a lot of forums have a lot of great graphics, in signatures etc, so wondering now if it wasnt the graphics that made my old forums run slower?

I haven't noticed that my board has slowed down at all and we have tons. I personally think that some servers just can't handle the load. I sometimes think that they just want forums to have text messages - which is totally unrealistic.

I do notice though that anyone who is still on dial-up does find graphically intense boards to run a tad slow; but, nowadays, just about everyone has high speed.

I suggest that you and your members use a photo-hosting site for your graphics and not to upload them to your site from your puters. I try also as often as possible to encourage members to link to photobucket, etc. even for their avatars. That way, it doesn't slow things down.
